The word ‘Hatha’ descends from the Sanskrit words ‘ha’ and ‘tha’ meaning ‘sun’ and ‘moon’.
Hatha yoga is known to unite these pairs of opposites – the ‘sun’ being the positive and ‘moon’ being the negative.
Hatha yoga uses persistence within the yoga poses and meditation, is slow-paced, gentle and incredibly calming. Hatha yoga classes cover a mixture of movements including asanas (postures), pranayama (breathing techniques), seated meditation, savasana (relaxation pose) and incorporating vinyasa flow (breath-synchronized movement).
